What do Psychologists Do?
Psychologists help people across the lifespan with a wide range of psychological and emotional concerns. Clinical Psychologists in particular are trained in providing specialist assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based therapy for the more complex psychological problems and disorders, as well as assisting with other general concerns and difficulties.
The link between our psychological and physical health is well established. In the context of a family health clinic such as ours, psychological therapy can be an essential part of a person’s journey toward overall health and wellbeing, either as an adjunct therapy to naturopathic and physical treatments, or as the primary treatment modality.
Qualifications and registration
Clinical psychologists have usually completed a minimum of six years full-time university training. Their postgraduate training includes intensive coursework, a substantial research thesis, and supervised practice in a variety of health and mental health settings.
To ensure they meet standards of competence and ethical practice, all Australian psychologists are legally required to be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia. Members of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) are also bound by the Ethical codes and guidelines set down by the Society for the welfare of patients.
